CLASS DESCRIPTION
Step into the often-misunderstood world of sex work through a lens of history, justice, and lived experience. Taught by two former sex workers, this class offers an unfiltered and decolonized look at how culture, law, and stigma have shaped the sex industry over time. Participants will gain a grounded understanding of sex work as both labor and identity, exploring how social attitudes, political movements, and legal frameworks continue to impact workers’ safety, autonomy, and representation today.
The class dismantles common myths and stereotypes, emphasizing the diversity of people who engage in sex work across gender, race, class, and ability. It examines how laws such as FOSTA-SESTA and different legal models, from decriminalization to the Nordic approach, affect the daily realities of those working in the industry. Through an intersectional lens, attendees will explore how sex work connects to broader issues like bodily autonomy, harm reduction, disability rights, and LGBTQ+ liberation.
More than a history lesson, Sex Work Unveiled centers the voices and resilience of those most impacted. Participants are invited to think critically about stigma and power while gaining the language and context to support sex workers with respect and integrity. This class is designed for sex workers, allies, educators, therapists, and anyone seeking a deeper and more nuanced understanding of sex work beyond the headlines.
By weaving together historical insight, lived experience, and social analysis, this course challenges assumptions and opens space for empathy, awareness, and change. Grounded in harm reduction and human rights, it reminds us that sex work has always been part of human history and that listening to sex workers is key to shaping a safer and more just future.
