Pain Aestheticized: Endometriosis Art
Lecture Three
What is this class about?
In this class, you will have the opportunity to analyze brilliant endometriosis art created by contemporary artists - but not without some prep! In order to understand the activist nature of endo art, we have to understand its predecessor - menstrual activism. We will tackle the topics of body politics, menstrual stigma, artivism, and talk about taboo-shattering menstruation art. With these basics in mind, we will move on to discuss endometriosis activism and finally endometriosis (visual) art.
Who is this class for?
This class is for everyone who is interested in feminist art, with a particular penchant for the gory side of femininity. Alongside offering the theoretical framework that will allow you to understand the context of the art you will be seeing, you will also get an eyeful of gorgeous menstruation and endometriosis art. If you’re an art lover and want to feast your eyes on provocative feminist art - you’re in the right place!
What is in the lecture pack?
The final class comes with a checklist that will help you review the class. It includes academic articles on menstrual activism and the use of social media spaces in endometriosis education and community building. Additionally, you will receive printable materials for making your own uterus collage.

An avid endo activist in her free time, Alekszandra is currently leading the In/Visible Endometriosis: Menstruation, Menopause, and Narrative Medicine project at the University of Graz, Austria. A former teacher, she uses every opportunity to educate and organize around feminist issues both in her local and online communities.
